For the past several months, PackSafe supporters have been working to educate members of Congress on the issues surrounding containerized storage of flammable and combustible liquids. As a result of these efforts, several members have submitted their own requests to their Congressman and Senator following up PackSafe’s own outreach to OSHA.
In May 2016, a group of senators and congressmen – led by Reps. Susan Bonamici (D-OR) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) – wrote to Labor Secretary Tom Perez urging OSHA to update its safety standard for the containerized storage of flammable/combustible liquids.
In October 2016, the leadership of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus sent a letter to Sec. Perez urging an update in OSHA’s standard for the containerized storage of flammable/combustible liquids. This bipartisan, bicameral letter was signed by the following Caucus leaders:
- Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), Chairman
- Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Co-chair
- Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Co-chair
- Rep. Dave Reichert (R-WA), Co-chair
- Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Co-Chair
- Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE), Co-chair
